The STREAM pilot sites were chosen carefully to present the diversity in geographical, economic, size and type of the consumers. All the pilots focus on a specific part of STREAM Ecosystem but complement each other to form a comprehensive testing ground of all the elements of STREAM Ecosystem.

Location

Ajdovščina, Slovenia

Sector

Industrial park

Summary

The Slovenian pilot site encompasses an industrial park in the town of Ajdovščina, located in the south-western part of Slovenia. It comprises approximately 340 industrial and commercial buildings connected to the power network managed by the DSO Elektro Primorska (STREAM partner EPR).

Goals

  1. Create a platform to aggregate flexibility sources (e- mobility infrastructure and industrial).
  2. Develop and implement a Device Register to enable a digital specification of various flexibility assets.
  3. Establish a prequalification protocol to validate and verify flexibility assets.
  4. Model 3-phase electrical topology of LV distribution networks to improve forecasting capabilities, asset utilization and lifespan.
  5. Deploy a simplified plug-and-play system to monitor flexibility assets.
  6. Develop and deploy a system for managing the distribution network by using flexibility assets.
  7. Develop a system for DSO-TSO (transmission system operator) cooperation to provide the possibility of utilising flexibility assets for ancillary services.

Grid

The Slovenian pilot site encompasses an industrial park in the town of Ajdovščina, located in the south-western part of Slovenia. It comprises approximately 340 industrial and commercial buildings connected to the power network managed by the DSO Elektro Primorska. Electrical power is supplied via two 20 kV medium voltage feeders and ten 20 kV/0.4 kV transformer substations. Whilst majority of customers are connected to LV distribution network, several larger industrial customers are connected directly to the MV network. As the existing power network within industrial park in Ajdovščina does not require any significant upgrade to facilitate the implementation of the proposed pilot project, the key step for gauging overall potential is evaluating the available flexibility of a sample, at the moment 12 customers, with most of whom the letters of intent for STREAM involvement have already been signed. Based on the information provided, the aggregated peak power of the sample is approximately 9.4 MW and preliminary field analyses, we estimate that roughly 2 MW of this capacity can be used to provide flexibility services to a flexibility service provider, DSO or TSO.
