Workshop in Crevillent Explores Flexibility and the Future of the COMPTEM Energy Community

On 24 March 2026, STREAM project partner ENERCOOP hosted a community workshop in Crevillent, Spain, bringing together around 45 participants, members and potential members of the COMPTEM energy community, along with local stakeholders interested in the town’s energy future.

The session focused on how the energy community can move beyond collective self-consumption towards a more integrated local energy ecosystem, combining photovoltaic generation, storage, smart energy management and flexibility. Participants explored how smarter use of electricity, including demand flexibility and better coordination of local energy assets, can deliver both individual savings and broader benefits for the community and the grid.

At the close of the workshop, 40 participants completed a feedback questionnaire. Results pointed to a moderately high level of energy literacy and a positive outlook on flexibility solutions. Motivations were both economic and social: while fair financial compensation matters, participants placed equal or greater weight on contributing to community goals, supporting sustainability and helping to maintain a stable electricity grid.

Participants generally found flexibility services practical to integrate into daily life, though responses highlighted the importance of protecting comfort, keeping systems simple and maintaining clear user control, particularly around automated device management and data security.

The workshop confirmed that there is a solid social basis for developing flexibility services within the Crevillent energy community. The insights gathered will feed directly into the next stages of STREAM activities at the Spanish pilot site, helping to shape solutions that are understandable, acceptable and genuinely beneficial for energy community members.
