STREAM Showcased at 17th Slovenian Electric Power Engineers Conference

The STREAM project was recently highlighted at the 17th Conference of Slovenian Electric Power Engineers CIGRE-CIRED, held from May 19–21, 2025 in Portorož, Slovenia. The conference brought together key stakeholders from the Slovenian electric power sector to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the field of electric power engineering.

During the event, Matej Pečjak from University of Ljubljana presented a paper titled “Advanced Operation and Planning of Electrical Power Distribution Networks Using Flexibility, where he outlined how flexibility can be used as a modern approach for managing and developing distribution networks. The paper emphasized the need for flexibility, defined as the dynamic adjustment of generation or consumption in response to external signals, as an alternative to conventional grid upgrades, which often require significant investment and long implementation periods.

The STREAM project was introduced as part of this presentation, focusing on its innovative approach to network planning and management through the STREAM ecosystem of tools. One of the key developments under STREAM is the sPLAN tool, designed to help Distribution System Operators (DSOs) make informed, technology-neutral decisions by comparing traditional network reinforcements with flexibility-based solutions, including the integration of local flexibility markets.
