STREAM closing event at FLEXCON 2026

FLEXCON 2026, Europe’s leading conference on demand-side flexibility, took place on 23 and 24 September 2026 at the Queen Elisabeth Center in Antwerp. Now in its 9th edition, the conference is organised by the Flexiblepower Alliance Network (FAN) and smartEn, and brings together technology providers, utilities, system operators, regulators and policy makers working on energy flexibility. This year it gathered 520 unique attendees, 100 speakers and 60 sessions, with 35 companies and 5 regulatory authorities on stage.

STREAM held its closing event on the first day, 23 September, with a keynote in the morning and a roundtable in the afternoon.

Keynote: missing blocks to low-voltage flexibility

The STREAM programme opened with a keynote by Dr. Tomi Medved, STREAM Project Coordinator and Head of the Laboratory of Energy Policy at the University of Ljubljana. Titled “Missing blocks to utilization of low-voltage flexibility”, the talk addressed what is still needed to make low-voltage flexibility work in practice and presented the STREAM Device Registry.

Roundtable: Deploying flexibility in real-world energy systems

In the afternoon, STREAM held a roundtable, moderated by Dr. Medved. Daniel Pastor Pascual (ETRA I+D, Spain), Bernardo Di Chiara (OptiWatti, Finland), Prashanth Kumar Pedholla (ASM Terni S.p.A., Italy) and Klemen Peter Kosovinc (Kolektor sETup, Slovenia) represented the four pilot sites and shared what they learned in deployment.

Each pilot opened with a short video and introduction. The moderated discussion that followed covered what the pilots would do differently if they started again and how to bring asset owners and other stakeholders on board. It also looked at what distribution system operators still lack, such as network topology, real-time data and forecasting, even where flexibility activations already work reliably, and at the regulatory conditions for local flexibility markets, including pre-qualification and connection agreements. The panel closed with the question of what remains once project funding ends, followed by questions from the audience.

Thank you

The closing event marks the final public moment of STREAM, as the project reaches the end of its four-year journey. We thank our speakers, the pilot teams, all STREAM partners and the FLEXCON organisers for bringing the flexibility community together in Antwerp.
