New STREAM Video Showcases sPLAN for Smarter Grid Planning

The STREAM project has published a new video presenting sPLAN, a planning tool developed to support distribution system operators in assessing future grid development needs.

As the energy system evolves through increased electrification, renewable energy integration, and changing consumption patterns, DSOs are facing growing challenges in planning timely and cost-effective grid investments. sPLAN was developed to support this process by enabling a structured comparison of different planning options, including conventional grid reinforcement and flexibility-based solutions.

The tool helps identify where flexibility can reduce or postpone the need for infrastructure upgrades, supporting more efficient investment decisions and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable electricity system.

The new video explains the purpose of sPLAN and highlights its role within the STREAM project’s broader efforts to enable smarter grid planning and accelerate the energy transition.
