From June 11th to 13th, the European Sustainable Energy Week took place in Brussels, Belgium, attracting over 2,000 participants. The event featured numerous engaging discussions on crucial topics in the sustainable energy sector, including regulatory frameworks, the latest advancements, solutions, and significant challenges.
The STREAM project participated in a session titled “What about flexibility? How customers can improve power systems.” This session included two panels. In the panel “Unlocking local energy flexibility potential: are customers ready to embrace innovation?” moderated by Ms. Tzeni Varfi (E.DSO), Mr. Tomi Medved from the University of Ljubljana represented the STREAM project. In addition to the STREAM project, several other companies and projects were represented by esteemed experts in their fields:
- Ms. Katerina Drivakou, UBITECH ENERGY and ENFLATE project,
- Mr. Josh Roberts, REScoop.eu,
- Ms. Rose Matthews, Smart Innovation Norway,
- Mr. Veli-Pekka Saajo, Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER),
- Mr. Fernando David Martin Utrilla, i-DE (Iberdrola) and BeFlexible project

During the panel, speakers emphasized the importance of placing customers at the center of flexibility efforts and developing platforms that enable data exchange across the value chain to activate various flexibility mechanisms. Additionally, they highlighted the need to design flexibility markets with integrated energy-related services, particularly by engaging local authorities to connect with customers and bring them closer to these initiatives. The speakers also suggested revisiting the fundamentals of how flexibility can be promoted.
