AIR4NRG Hosts STREAM Project: Exploring Flexibility, Storage Innovation, and Equality in Energy Systems

On May 13th, 2025, the AIR4NRG project — which aims to revolutionise energy storage by leveraging isothermal compression-expansion technology — invited Daniel Pastor from ETRA, technical coordinator of the STREAM project, to present our initiative.

Daniel provided an overview of the STREAM ecosystem, with a particular focus on the role of storage assets in delivering flexibility services within local flexibility markets. By unlocking this potential source of flexibility, energy systems not only improve their resilience and security, but storage technologies also gain access to an additional revenue stream, making them more attractive to investors.

The panellists also discussed technical and regulatory barriers to the deployment of these technologies, such as high costs, the lack of a clear framework to support their rollout, and missing price signals that prevent financial stakeholders from assessing their full value. However, our projects are working to overcome these challenges in the near future.

Last but not least, the workshop addressed gender equality in Horizon Europe projects. Panellists emphasised the importance of promoting equality within our consortia and how both the European Commission and project partners place gender equality at the core of innovation to help close the gap.
